Right now, I am a senior in college and I will graduate in December with my Industrial Engineering undergraduate degree and also with my Engineering Management master degree. Time flies. I have already been at RIT for almost five years, but it didn’t feel that long. I still can remember the day that I received my acceptance letter from RIT. I was so excited, and it was the first acceptance letter I had received from schools.
Talking about choosing RIT - it was not a hard decision for me. I started my college search the summer before my senior year. At that point, I already knew what major I wanted to pursue which was a big advantage. I made my decision to study Industrial Engineering after I read a book that talked about all different majors and the development of their career life. Since I already knew the major I wanted, I just needed to find the colleges who had this program. During the search, my main focus point was the school had a strong program. Location, campus, food, and other criteria were my minor concerns. From my parents' perspective, besides the academic part, their main concern and priority was safety. Based on the two biggest criterias, I found eight possible schools. As a result, I chose RIT as my final decision.
There are three big reasons why I chose RIT. The first one is RIT’s Industrial Engineering program is very strong, rated top in this area. This program also has many connections with related big companies such as TOYOTA and Xerox. Dual degree is the attractive part of Engineering department in RIT and the second reason I came here. I can finish both my undergrad and grad degrees in five years with one year of co-op experience. This dual degree program saved time and money for students. The third reason is that the area around RIT is safe from both nature perspective and society perspective, so my parents can feel safe to send me here in U.S.
As mentioned is the second reason, RIT’s co-op program is the best and most helpful program I have seen. I also talk about it with my friends in other schools, and they all want to experience the job searching from RIT. The career office and job zone website were very helpful when I was trying to find a co-op during my second and third year. They provided a lot of useful information for me and many good opportunities. My co-op experience gives me strong knowledge about knowing myself and also what type of job I want in the future.
Overall, I love RIT. I definitely will miss it here after graduating.
