Every residence hall is different, but every community has similar types of residents. Here’s a list of some of the usual creatures you can find in this habitat we call a dorm:
The Siren: This resident majors in bass and minors in keeping people up at night. It’s easy to spot a siren on your floor. You can either follow the vibrations in the walls to the source, or just follow the trail of smoke coming from their fire mix-tape.
The Flock: This is actually a group of creatures. On every floor, a core group of social residents will emerge around which the social order of the habitat will arise. They will plan events, go to lunch together, and offer up their rooms for people to hang out.
The Bat: This resident has a very odd sleep schedule. You’ll never see them during the day, but if you have to get up at 4am for an early flight, BOOM, they’re heading into their room. Little is known of these residents, as their nocturnal habits make it difficult to get to know them.
The Kangaroo: No, this resident doesn’t hop, but he does own a car. Like a mother kangaroo carries its young in its pouch, so too will this resident give you rides to the airport, to the bus station, and even to the occasional movie premiere. Don’t take this resident for granted though. Like kangaroos require plants for sustenance, so too does this resident require gas money.
These are but four creatures native to the residence hall habitat. Come to RIT, and you’ll meet the entire animal kingdom.
