I am from the Rochester area and love going to the movies. I also love bringing people to all the different movies theaters in the area.
There is a Regal's Cinema not from campus. I like going there because of its convenient location. It's about 8 minutes from campus, and on the bus route. You don't even need a car to get there! (Although it would be faster if you drove).
My favorite movie theater is Lowe's AMC in Webster. This theater was redone only a few years ago. All the seats are comfy lazy-boy recliners. This theater was the first in the area to upgrade their seating, and has become quite popular. I highly recommend buying your seats online prior to making the 20-minute drive to Webster. That's right – you can buy your specific seat online and it'll be reserved for you. No more showing up early and hoping for a good seat! You know exactly what you are getting, and it'll be printed right on your ticket.
The Regal's near Eastview mall in Victor (one of the nicest malls in the area), has also just upgraded to the nice recliners. That theater is nice, and you can stop by the mall while you're there. It's only about 25 minutes from campus as well.
Cinemark Movie's 10 is another movie theater to check out that's only about 8 minutes from campus. This theater plays older releases for a great price! For example, one of the movies out right now at Movies 10 is Guardians of the Galaxy (which is about 5 months old). Tickets for a night showing are only $2. ONLY $2!!!!! I haven't been to movies 10 in a while... the last movie I saw there was Cars (so yeah, it's been a long time), so I'm not sure how the facilities are.... but TWO DOLLARS.
In the fall, spring, and summer, I also LOVE taking people to the drive-ins. My hometown, Avon, is one of few places that still have an old-fashioned drive-in movie theater, aptly named The Vintage Drive-In. It's only about 20 minutes from campus too! They play the latest releases and show double features. This means you get to see two movies for the price of one! It's so cool driving up in your car, parking in front of the screen and watching a movie under the stars. Dress warmly, though, because it can get pretty chilly depending on the time of the year.
The College Activities Board on campus also hosts a free movie every Thursday night. This is a lot of fun if you just want to go to a free movie with some friends right on campus. Thursday Night Cinema takes place at 9pm in Ingle Auditorium, which seats about 500. I've seen Back to the Future III (they played 1 and 2, but I missed them), The Lego Movie, Frozen, Monster's University, and some other random movies there. Sometimes they even have a theme for the night. Around Halloween they show scary movies and classics like The Shining.
So, if you like movies as much as I do, you should make it a goal to check out some of these places.
